A darkly comic, wise, audacious debut.

Best novel (tie):  The Sisters Brothers by Patrick deWitt
A contemporary Western about a gunslinger who wants to quit the business.

Best novel (tie):  11/22/63 by Stephen King
The time-traveling best-seller set against the Kennedy assassination.
